The Civil War in Barnstaple project is well under way, the activities have all been confirmed and the wave of publicity imminent. The free, six-day programme is looking jam packed and fantastically varied with something for all ages.
The events start on Monday 7th August, with a Guildhall open house and scheduled interactive tours, brought to life by local actors, and a weaving workshop in the Main Chamber. All activities throughout the week are completely free! Why not try your hand at a decoupage workshop, or send the kids on a play-in-a-day? The whole family can come and see the civil war brought to life with Trepanning Through History. Spend the weekend with the Sealed Knot, St Anne’s and the High Street will see an invasion from civil war soldiers and Rock Park will be Sieged on Sunday with a whole host of things to keep you entertained.
The project has been made possible by National Lottery players through a grant of £6,400 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).

Commenting on the programme the Heritage Committee Chairman Cllr Natasha Haywood said, "I am very passionate about the heritage of our Town and I am very excited to bring the history of the civil war in Barnstaple to life. Thanks to the hard work of our Heritage Staff and the National Lottery we are able to provide this fantastic opportunity for everyone to take in some local history. With our heritage tours and interactive workshops in the Guildhall throughout the week, culminating with the grand finale battle display on the Sunday, there truly is something for everyone of all ages to get involved in and I am truly excited to be reliving a part of our towns rich history."
