Armed Forces Exhibition at Pilton

Armed Forces Exhibition

Large crowds are expected to attend this year’s Armed Forces Exhibition at Pilton Community College, Chaddiford Lane, Barnstaple on Saturday 27th June 2015.

The free event, led by North Devon Veterans Association and organised in partnership with a range of other organisations, charts military history through displays of equipment and memorabilia as well as live demonstrations.

Forces veterans are also on hand to bring the displays to life and answer visitors’ questions, and to provide volunteer visitors with the chance to try out some of the – deactivated! – equipment!

Highlights of the exhibition, across both indoor and outdoor areas, include:

Medieval re-enactments

Assault training

Military displays

Armed forces careers information

Displays and demonstrations of military hardware

Photographic exhibition

Musical and dance performances, and a commemorative drumhead service

A Drumhead Service (27th June only) commemorating those who lived, fought and died in conflicts

A free shuttle bus service, provided by Stagecoach as a contribution to this community event, will run to and from the Bus Station throughout the day.

On 25th and 26th June, up to 2,000 schoolchildren will benefit from a dedicated educational visit to the exhibition.

Town Mayor Cllr Mrs Val Elkins will open the exhibition, accompanied by the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Devon and civic dignitaries. Cllr Mrs Elkins said “I’m really excited to see the exhibition taking shape and congratulate all involved in organising it. This is a great opportunity for people to learn about the armed forces, past and present, and to celebrate Barnstaple’s strong links with the forces.”
