Heritage Opens Days Barnstaple

A once-a-year chance to explore the world on your doorstep,
unlocked and completely free of charge!
Below is a list of the exciting local events planned for the 
Heritage Open Days on 11th & 12th September 2015.

Museum of Barnstaple & North Devon

Museum of Barnstaple & North Devon 
Discover your Museum - 11am and 2pm.

Julian Vayne, Education Officer at The Museum will be available to provide an informal talk about the museum building, the story of the collection and what goes on behind the scenes in the museum. 
These sessions are free, please come to reception on the day and indicate that you’d like to participate.

Barnstaple Guildhall

Barnstaple Guildhall 
Guildhall Tour 1.30pm

Enter through the gated archway in Butchers Row and discover the wealth of treasures inside this historic building.
The free tour will include the Main Chamber with its many portraits of former burgesses. Next door the Dodderidge Room contains the Town Plate and a stunning 16th century fire surround.

School Days - Growing up through the Ages

 

Arlington Court

Arlington Court
10.30am - 5pm
Step back in time at Arlington Court to the Victorian period and explore childhood during this era. We have period dressing up clothes for families and try your hand at some Victorian games on the lawn.
Returning offer ‘Become a child for the day.’ Get entry to Arlington at child’s price (£5.30) instead of adult price (£10.55). 
Valid until 25 Oct, can only be used once for a max of 2 adults.

Free Entry to the Heritage Centre exhibition all day. Call in and begin your journey through time.
View the display of ‘Old Barnstaple Schools’ on show in the Colonnade at the entrance to the centre.

Join our Barnstaple Heritage Trail to tour the town and hear tales of old school days and what is was like growing up in this historic town.

Albert Clock Barnstaple

The Albert Clock
10am - 12.30pm
Ever wanted to peep inside the Albert Clock? Now is your chance!
Barnstaple Town Council’s Property Manager, Ian Parker, will be on hand to show you the secrets, and explain the restoration, of this iconic town landmark.
The Albert Clock is on the Square, adjacent to the Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon.

 

St Anne's Arts and Community Centre

St Anne's Arts & Community Centre
11am, 1pm and 2pm.
Find out what it was like to attend a Victorian School with lessons starting at the above times. Call in between lessons to view this beautiful Grade I Listed building and find out how it served the town as a Chantry Chapel, Grammar School, Huguenot place of worship and Museum.
