It’s not often you come across an acoustic duo who perform without backing tracks and yet still sound like a full band. It’s even less often you find an acoustic duo who have influences as diverse as Acker Bilk and Iron Maiden, whilst also having exceptional close harmonies that sound like two voices as one! Intrigued? Well now’s your chance to see for yourself! The Red Dirt Skinners are on tour in October in the South West of England calling at St Anne’s Arts Centre, Barnstaple on 24 October.
The Red Dirt Skinners rule breaking individuality has led to them being the first band in history to succeed at both the British Blues Awards (WINNER - Instrumentalist of the Year 2014) and the British Country Music Awards (Finalist BEST NEW ACT and PEOPLE’S CHOICE 2013). The band’s music has wide appeal and comfortably blends Country, Blues, Americana and Folk Music. The Skinners were also voted by UK Country Radio as one of the top ten acts of 2014.
With a relentless touring schedule, the duo have been described by many as the “hardest working band in the business”. The Skinners love performing live, and their vocal harmonies have been described as “sublime” and “beyond perfection”. They display an exuberance and confidence on stage which is rarely seen, and they love the opportunity to interact with their fans both during and after their shows.
The Skinners will be performing songs from their forthcoming (fifth) album, Behind The Wheel; a collection of songs with lyrics drawing on their experiences of life on tour.
Recently given 4/5 stars by the Daily Mirror; ‘Home bred duos don’t come more impassioned or impressive’ Classic Rock Magazine gave the duo 8/10 and said “close harmonies don’t come much sweeter”. Rob and Sarah have also been described by Blues in Britain Magazine as "One of the best duos in the business".
During their evening at St Anne’s they will be supported by North Devon musician Douglas E Powell. He is both a lyricist and poetic singer-songwriter, his songs are wistful, melancholy and fragile. Layering wistful stories over classic English folk blended with alt-country.
